Grupo criado no Rio de Janeiro tendo como líder e fundador o baterista Téo Lima (Teófilo Pereira Lima - bateria, percussão e voz). Em suas várias formações fizeram parte Giovana Moretti (oboé e líder voz), Amaury Machado (violão e líder voz), Dudu Carybé (guitarra e cavaquinho), Nema Antunes (contrabaixo), Marco Brito (teclados), Pirulito (percussão) e Jaguara (percussão). No CD de estreia, "Batacotô", lançado pela gravadora Velas, em 1993, contou com as participações especiais de Dionne Warwick e Ivan Lins na faixa "Camaleão" (Ivan Lins, Vitor Martins e Aldir Blanc), com versão em inglês de Jack Cousineau e Giba Ferreira. Outra participação importante foi a de Gilberto Gil na faixa "Quilombos", de Lenine. Na faixa "Virou areia", de Lenine e Bráulio Tavares, a participação especial foi do próprio Lenine, sendo esta música incluída no "Jazz Book", livro oficial das universidades e escolas de música da  América. Por fim, a participação de Ivan Lins na música "Confins" (Ivan Lins, Vitor Martins e Aldir Blanc), música tema da novela "Renascer", da Rede Globo, neste mesmo ano. O disco contou ainda com os músicos Ernie Watts, Jerry Goodman, Bororó e Maurício Maestro. Destaque  para as faixas "N'kosi Sikelel'Afrika", de Enoch Sontonga, hino do Congresso Nacional Africano, e a faixa "So Bashiya Hlala Ba Ekhaya" (de Amandla), hino da Juventude Negra da África do Sul, no qual participou o sanfoneiro Sivuca. O disco foi relançado pelo selo americano Triloka e ocupou, segundo uma publicação americana especializada em world music, o 23ª lugar nas paradas de sucesso nos Estados Unidos. Entre os anos de 1993 e 1995 o  grupo fez shows nos Estados Unidos, Argentina, Venezuela e em outros países. Entre os vários músicos que fizeram parte do grupo, destacam-se o violonista e compositor Claudio Jorge, o baixista Sizão Machado, o tecladista Itamar Assiere, o tecladista e cantor Jorjão Barreto, o percussionista Café, a cantora Suzana Bello, o percussionista Ovídio Brito, a cantora e percussionista Mart'nália e o contrabaixista Décio Crispim. Outras pessoas foram importantes no processo de formação e consolidação da estética do grupo, entre elas, Nei Lopes, que ajudou na escolha do nome Batacotô; Paulinho Albuquerque, que co-produziu os dois primeiros CDs; o letrista Vitor Martins; o desenhista e caricaturista Mello Menezes, Ivan Lins e o letrista Aldir Blanc. Marcos Suzano nasceu no Rio de Janeiro, 1963. Estudou economia na UFRJ e aprendeu a tocar pandeiro sozinho. Estudou música em 86, parou, voltou em 97. Suzano toca tudo o que pode sair um som interessante. Nos shows, por exemplo, ele senta em um cajón, como se fosse um banquinho nstrumento. Mas o instrumento que o tornou conhecido é o pandeiro. Sua maneira de tocar é diferente, montou até uma oficina no Rio de Janeiro, onde mora, para ensinar a técnica. Da oficina saiu uma orquestra de pandeiros, o Pandemonium, que por alguns anos fez shows, mas acabou em 2001. Tem vários CDs lançados com outros artistas. Com Lenine, lançou Olho de Peixe, considerado um dos melhores CDs da década de 90. Ao lado do Baticum, grupo de percussão carioca, gravou um CD ao vivo. Com o Pife Muderno, outro grupo musical do Rio, gravou ao lado de Carlos Malta. Solo, tem dois CDs, Sambatown, que recebeu prêmio Sharp e Flash, lançado em 2000 pela gravadora Trama. Seu CD “Maria Gadú” foi contemplado, em 2010, com o Prêmio Multishow, na categoria Melhor Álbum, e rendeu à cantora uma indicação ao Grammy Latino, na categoria Revelação. Nesse mesmo ano, apresentou-se no Circo Voador (RJ). Ainda em 2010, apresentou-se com Caetano Veloso no Citibank Hall (RJ) com o show “Caetano Veloso + Maria Gadú”, para gravação de DVD. Ainda nesse ano, lançou o DVD “Maria Gadú – Multishow ao vivo”, gravado no Credicard Hall (SP) e trazendo, nos extras, uma entrevista inédita com a cantora.  bangaO Banga (para os "íntimos") nasceu como bloco de carnaval no verão de 98, e foi aos poucos ganhando espaço na zona sul, onde invariavelmente as apresentações acabavam em grandes festas nas ruas. Com o sucesso do carnaval, os principais integrantes ficaram motivados a seguir com o trabalho durante o ano, fazendo shows com uma formação reduzida, mas sem perder a sonoridade e a característica festiva do bloco. Este foi o estopim para o surgimento da banda Bangalafumenga. No entanto, mesmo como uma "banda", não perderam o jeito vira-lata, e não deixaram de participar da folia do carnaval de rua. O resultado é um som direto, percussivo, super dançante com uma linguagem poética simples. Assim o trabalho foi começando a conquistar a simpatia do público, e respeito de nomes consagrados da nossa música. Já dividiram palco com artistas como: Nei Lopes, Zélia Duncan, Fernanda Abreu, Marcelo D2, Roberto Frejat, Seu Jorge, Paula Lima, Walter Alfaiate, Adriana Calcanhoto, Pedro Luís e a Parede, entre outros. Rodrigo Maranhão, líder e principal compositor do grupo, já foi gravado por vários intérpretes da música brasileira. Destaque para Fernanda Abreu, Zélia Duncan, e Maria Rita, esta última que gravou a canção “Caminhos das Águas”, que deu ao compositor o Grammy Latino de melhor canção brasileira de 2006. As apresentações do Banga contam com suas canções, e de outros compositores da nova safra, além de clássicos da música brasileira, como Gil, Lenine, Alceu Valença, entre outros. O Bangalafumenga ministra sua Oficina de percussão na Parada da Lapa, RJ, em parceria com a Fundição Progresso, explorando toda a diversidade e riqueza dos ritmos brasileiros, como o Côco, a Ciranda, o Maracatú, o Samba. Na oficina, os três diretores do Banga (Rodrigo Maranhão, Thiago Di Sabbato, André Moreno) ensinam as técnicas dos instrumentos de bloco, como surdos, repiques e tamborins, além de musicalizar e formar "em casa" os batuqueiros do Bloco. Que vem ganhando força a cada ano, já conta com mais de 70 integrantes, e já está virando tradição no carnaval de rua do Rio. Grupo de samba formado por Felipe Girardi (voz e violão), Natalia Aisengart (voz), Luana Capaverde (tantã), Rafael dos Santos (cavaco), Ricardo Sá (baixo) e Alice Ripoll (pandeiro). Com uma música de conteúdo social reflexivo e com bases fincadas na tradição do samba, o grupo refletia as diversas concepções rítmicas da música pop com o instrumental da roda de samba. Formado nos anos de 1990, o grupo teve como uma de suas inspirações o disco "Olho de peixe", de Lenine e Marcos Suzano. Em suas apresentações, tocava composições próprias, como "O homem dos jornais", "Dessas bandas", "Urucubaca", "A cocaína sumiu da delegacia", "Navegador". Além das composições citadas, são de autoria de Felipe Girardi as músicas "Conversou" (em parceria imaginária com o cineasta Glauber Rocha) e o diálogo musicado do filme "O dragão da maldade contra o santo guerreiro", também de Glauber Rocha. Apresentou-se em diversas casas noturnas, como o Bar Semente e o Beco da Bohemia, além de participar de eventos universitários no Rio de Janeiro. Atuou também em programas de televisão como o "Afinando a língua", do apresentador Toni Belloto, no Canal Futura e foi reportagem de outro programa no canal Globo News. Samba group formed by Philip Girardi ( voice and guitar ) , Natalia Aisengart (voice ) , Luana Capaverde ( gong ) , Rafael dos Santos ( chip ) , Ricardo Sá ( bass) and Alice Ripoll ( tambourine) . Com 27 anos de vida e já com 08 de carreira, a cantora Khrystal, de Natal/RN, como a maioria dos artistas brasileiros, começou a se apresentar na noite, cantando hits de sua geração,sem nunca perder a via da trajetória da música popular brasileira. Apareceu inicialmente no grupo Farofa Carioca, formado em 1997 no Rio de Janeiro. Com uma linguagem híbrida, o grupo misturava influências de vários gêneros, entre eles o choro, samba, xote e ritmos estrangeiros como o hip hop e o reggae. No ano seguinte, ainda fazendo parte do grupo Farofa Carioca, lançou o disco "Moro no Brasil", no qual foram incluídas várias composições de autoria: "A carne" (c/ Marcelo Yuca e Ulisses Cappelletti), "Menino da Central" (c/ Wallace Jefferson e Maury Santana), além da faixa-título "Moro no Brasil", de sua autoria em parceria com Gabriel Moura, Wallace Jefferson e Jovi Joviniano. Por essa época trabalhou com o coreógrafo Ivaldo Bertazzo no espetáculo "Mãe Gentil - Folias Guanabaras" e ainda fez participações nos filmes "Moro no Brasil", de Mika Kaurismaki e no documentário "Sambatown", de Jodele Lacher (com Nelson Sargento, Rui Ipanema e Claudinho do Cavaco). No ano de 1999 afastou-se do grupo para seguir carreira solo. Neste mesmo ano, a gravadora rescindiu o contrato com a banda. Em 2000 o grupo Farofa Carioca participou do CD "Soul brasileiro", da gravadora Universal Music, disco no qual foi incluída a faixa "A lei da bala", de sua autoria em parceria com Gabriel Moura, Jovi Joviniano e Sandrinho. Por essa época participou de excursões do grupo Planet Hemp no Japão e nos Estados Unidos, gravou um CD de voz e violão para o mercado europeu (com os produtores da boate francesa Favela Chic), participou do disco "Favela Chic", coletânea que reuniu diversos artistas brasileiros que se apresentaram na boite francesa. Participou também da montagem de "Othelo" (Shakespeare), na qual atuou no papel principal, dirigido por Antônio Pedro, atuou em um episódio de "Os Normais", da Rede Globo e começou a gravar seu primeiro disco solo nos estúdios do vocalista do grupo Marcelo D2. No ano de 2001 participou como ator (interpretando o personagem Mané Galinha) no filme "Cidade de Deus" de Kátia Lund e Fernando Meirelles, baseado no romance homônimo de Paulo Lins, filme para o qual também compôs a música de fechamento. Neste mesmo ano, pela gravadora Regata Music, lançou o CD "Samba esporte fino". O disco contou com as participações de Carlos Dafé na faixa "De alegria raiou o dia" (Carlos Dafé e Dom Mita), William Magalhães (teclados), pastoras da Velha-Guarda da Mangueira, DJs Rodrigo Nuts e Zé Gonzales e Dudu Nobre. Foram incluídas neste CD "Samba que nem Rita a Dora" (Luiz Carlos da Vila e Jane), "Pequinês e pitbull" (Gabriel Moura, Lula Aranha e Jovi Joviniano) "Mangueira" (anteriormente gravada por Paula Lima), "O samba taí" (Seu Jorge e Pell), "Carolina" e "Chega no swingue". Ainda em 2001, participou ao lado de Elza Soares, DJ Dolores e a Orquestra de Cordas de Pernambuco de um musical. No ano de 2002, ao lado de Nina Becker, Rodrigo Amarante, Thalma de Freitas e Moreno Veloso, e os músicos Bidu Cordeiro (trombone), Max Glamour (flugel), Felipe Pinaud (flauta), Bartolo (guitarra), Nelson Jacobina (guitarra), Rubinho Jacobina (teclado), Berna (sampler) e Kassin (baixo), integrou a Orchestra Imperial, fazendo diversas apresentações no Ballroom, no Rio de Janeiro e participou do disco "Tranqüilo", do DJ Marcelinho da Lua, CD no qual interpretou em dueto com o rapper a faixa "Cotidiano", de Chico Buarque. Neste mesmo ano, a convite de João Bosco, participou do CD "Malabaristas do sinal vermelho", no qual interpertou a faixa "Cinema cidade" (João Bosco e Francisco Bosco). Ainda em 2002, Elza Soares regravou de sua autoria "A carne" (c/ Marcelo Yuca e Ulisses Cappelletti) no CD "Do cóccix até o pescoço". Neste mesmo ano, participou como convidado especial de Marina Machado e Markus Ribas em show no Teatro Rival BR, no "Projeto Conexão Telemig Celular de Música". Participou também, ao lado de outros artistas, participou do documentário sobre o samba "Moro no Brasil", do cineasta finlandês radicado no Brasil Mika Kaurismaki. Em 2003, voltou a apresentar-se no Ballroom integrando a Orchestra Imperial. Participou do "Projeto Rio Quintas de Verdade nas Quintas de janeiro", na Marina da Glória, dividindo o show com Luiz Melodia e, ao lado de Pedro Luís e A Parede, foi o anfitrião do "Projeto Skol Rio 2003", no Jockey Club Brasileiro, no qual o trio recebeu como convidados Lenine, Luiz Melodia, Jorge Vercilo e Cláudio Zoli. Neste mesmo ano, com Jorge Aragão, J. Smidt, Bangalafumenga e Discípulos de Jorge, participou do show "Salve Jorge", apresentado no Armazém do Rio, no Cais do Porto do Rio de Janeiro. Durante o ano de 2003 manteve um projeto de música no bar Buxixo, em Vila Isabel, no qual recebia toda segunda-feira diversos convidados e ainda participou do disco de Ana Carolina, no qual interpretou em dueto com a parceira a faixa "O beat da beata". Entre suas diversas intérpretes está Paula Lima em "Tive razão" e "Gafieira". Participou do filme "The life aquatic", de Wes Anderson (filmado em Roma), no qual fez o papel de um mergulhador (Pelé dos Santos) da equipe de Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) um oceanógrafo documentarista, um tipo "à la Jacques Cousteau". Neste mesmo ano, ao lado de Dona Ivone Lara, Wilson Moreira, Elton Medeiros, Cristina Buarque, Monarco, Velha-Guarda da Portela, Elza Soares, Teresa Cristina, Mart'nália, Cristina Buarque, Nilze Carvalho, Renato Braz e Walter Alfaiate, entre outros, participou do CD "Um ser de luz - saudação à Clara Nunes", lançado pela gravadora Deckdisc. Em 2004 lançou pelo selo francês Naïve o CD "Cru", que vendeu cerca de 30 mil cópias na França, disco de ouro naquele país. Nesse mesmo ano gravou o DVD “MTV Apresenta: Seu Jorge”, no Hotel Unique, em São Paulo, com a participação da cantora Paula Lima. No ano de 2005 apresentou-se com grande sucesso na França. Também foi uma das principais atrações do MIDEM (Mercado Internacional do Disco e Edição Musical). Fez cerca de 50 shows na Europa, entre eles, "Festival de Montreux", e na Inglaterra no "Royal Festival Hall" e "Festival La Línea", que promove anualmente a música latino-americana em Londres. Seu disco "Cru", lançado pelo selo Ether Music, vendeu 50 mil cópias na Europa e alcançou o oitavo lugar na lista dos dez melhores CDs de fevereiro da revista "Observer Monthly Music" e o jornal britânico "Daily Telegraph" o classificou com o título de "O homem mais cool do mundo no momento". Neste mesmo ano o disco "Cru" foi lançado nos Estados Unidos pelo selo Six Degrees, da cantora Bebel Gilberto. Fez turnê pelos Estados Unidos, Portugal e Inglaterra. Também em 2005, apresentou-se ao lado de Ana Carolina, em São Paulo. Os dois artistas interpretaram no espetáculo sucessos de suas respectivas carreiras, além de dois textos de Elisa Lucinda que musicaram em parceria: "Só de sacanagem" e "Alfredo é Gisele". Em 2007 lançou na Europa, Brasil e Estados Unidos o CD "América Brasil". Neste mesmo ano participou, ao lado de vários artistas da MPB, tais como Martinho da Vila, Alcione, Diogo Nogueira, Zeca Pagodinho, Nélson Sargento, Ivete Sangalo, Jair Rodrigues, Velha-Guarda da Portela, ente outros, da gravação do primeiro CD e DVD "Cidade do samba", do Selo Zecapagodiscos (Universal Music), no qual fez dueto com Luiz Melodia na faixa "Diz que fui por aí" (Zé Kétti). No ano de 2010 lançou, como integrante do grupo Almaz, o CD "Seu Jorge and Almaz", somente para os mercados dos EUA, Europa e Japão. O grupo Almaz (almaz quer dizer diamante em russo) é formado pelo guitarrista Lúcio Maia, o percussionista Da Lua e o baterista Pupillo (todos integrantes do grupo pernambucano Nação Zumbi), Antônio Pinto (filho de Ziraldo, baixista e autor de várias trilhas sonoras para cinema) e Seu Jorge (voz). O Almaz fez a estreia na gravação de "Juízo final" (Nélson Cavaquinho e Élcio Soares) para a trilha sonora do filme "Linha de Passe", dos diretores Walter Salles e Daniela Thomas. Em 2010 grupo conseguiu com o primeiro single "Everybody loves the sunshine" (do vibracionista jazz-soul Roy Avers) cotação máxima na revista americana "Rolling Stone". Nesse mesmo ano a gravadora Som Livre laçou o CD “Perfil - Seu Jorge”, que contou com as participações especiais de Ana Carolina em “É isso aí” (The Blower’s Daughter), Alexandre Pires em “Eu sou o samba”, Marcelo D2 em “Pode acreditar” (Meu laiá laiá) e Marcelinho da Lua em “Cotidiano”. Integrou o elenco do filme "Tropa de elite 2", lançado em 2010, no qual interpretou o detento Beirada, que liderava uma rebelião no presídio Bangu 1. Apresentou-se na Quinta da Boa Vista, no Rio de Janeiro, para a gravação do DVD “Músicas para Churrasco”, que contou com a participação de Caetano Veloso, Zeca Pagodinho, Racionais MCs, Alexandre Pires e Trio Preto, formado por Pretinho da Serrinha, Nene Brown e Miudinho.
