Arturo Sandoval (Artemisa, 6 de Novembro de 1949) é um trompetista e pianista de jazz cubano. Sandoval começou a estudar o trompete aos 12 anos de idade e mais tarde foi co-fundador do grupo Irakere e a partir de 1981 iniciou sua carreira solo. É conhecido também pela facilidade em executar notas superagudas, muita agilidade e ser rápido e criativo com o improviso no trompete. Seu ídolo e amigo Dizzy Gillespie ajudou Arturo no seu naturalização americana, em 1990 e este é desde 1999 cidadão norte-americano. [Fonte: wikipedia]

Nascida em Kingston e criada em Manchester, começou sua carreira em 1971 com o single "Sad Movies". Ela teve seu momento de maior sucesso em janeiro de 1981, com a música "Just When I Needed You Most", que alcançou o 31º lugar na Parada de Singles do Reino Unido. Apresentou-se como cantora de apoio de Jimmy Cliff nos anos 70 e 80. Em 1991, tornou-se cristã devota e abandonou a música secular para se dedicar à música gospel. No Brasil, ficou conhecida nas cidades de São Luís e Belém por músicas como "Midnight Blue", "Slim Boy", "Why Bird Fly" e "Doggie In The Window". Em fevereiro de 2014, foi diagnosticada com leucemia. Meses depois, ela esteve no Brasil, apresentando-se em Belém e Teresina junto a Lloyd Parks. Seu estado de saúde piorou em setembro do mesmo ano, quando ela estava fazendo shows em Londres. Barbara faleceu em 19 de dezembro de 2014, no Hospital Universitário das Índias Ocidentais, em Kingston, vítima de uma pneumonia adquirida durante o tratamento com quimioterapia. Ela tinha 62 anos e deixou marido e três filhos.

Born in Kingston and raised in Manchester, she began her career in 1971 with the single "Sad Movies". It had its most successful moment in January 1981, with the song "Just When I Needed You Most" which reached 31st place on the UK Singles Chart. She performed as supporting singer for Jimmy Cliff in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1991, she became a devout Christian and abandoned secular music to devote herself to gospel music. In Brazil, he was known in the cities of São Luís and Belém for songs like "Midnight Blue", "Slim Boy", "Why Bird Fly" and "Doggie In The Window". In February 2014, she was diagnosed with leukemia. Months later, she was in Brazil, performing in Bethlehem and Teresina with Lloyd Parks. Her condition worsened in September of the same year, when she was doing shows in London. Barbara died on December 19, 2014, at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, a victim of pneumonia acquired during treatment with chemotherapy. She was 62 years old and left her husband and three children.
