Spyro Gyra é uma banda americana de jazz fusion originalmente formada em meados de 1970 na cidade de Buffalo. A banda tem dezenas de álbuns gravados, com um total de vendas superior a 10 milhões de unidades. Estão entre as mais prolíficas e bem-sucedidas bandas do gênero. Entre seus maiores sucessos estão "Shaker Song" e "Morning Dance", sendo estas de grande popularidade em rádios americanas do gênero musical Smooth Jazz e similares, e ainda ouvidas com frequência mesmo passados anos de sido criadas. Algumas músicas do seu repertório ficaram marcadas por sua utilização em spots comerciais e como tema de abertura de programas de rádio e televisão, como no caso de "Lovin You" (do álbum Catching the Sun) que foi tema de abertura do programa Telecurso 1º Grau e a música "Bob Goes To The Store" (do álbum Breakout) que foi tema da vinheta do programa Free Jazz Festival. Nascido em Salvador, Álvaro Assmar manifestou sua inclinação para a música aos 6 anos de idade, quando viu os Beatles pela primeira vez na televisão. Em paralelo, acontecia a “Jovem Guarda” trazendo Renato e seus Blue Caps como representantes dos Beatles no Brasil, além de Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos e todos os demais artistas que compunham um movimento cultural de grande importância para a música brasileira. Tudo isto serviu como iniciação do aprendizado de Álvaro Assmar, que deu os primeiros passos num instrumento de brinquedo dado por uma tia (cavaquinho de Copacabana da Estrela). O primeiro violão, foi dado de presente pelo seu avô paterno aos 8 anos de idade e neste instrumento foi desenvolvida toda a técnica de solos mais apropriada para a guitarra do que o violão: era a influência predominantemente dos Beatles, Stones, Eric Clapton, Hendrix e do blues que vinha subscrito nestas tendências. A partir de Hendrix, Álvaro Assmar sentiu a necessidade de explorar outros territórios desconhecidos por ele até então: Cream, Allman Brothers, Mountain, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Yes, John Mayall, Buddy Guy e muitos outros grandes músicos que traziam o blues como matéria prima de sua arte. Aos 17 anos ganhou sua primeira guitarra e juntamente com seu irmão (Adelmo Assmar) formou o primeiro grupo de rock para apresentações em festivais de música do Colégio Maristas (Salvador) onde passou a ter contato com o palco, platéia e tudo que é preciso para o desenvolvimento de um artista. Por um acidente de percurso, acabou enveredando para a engenharia civil, formando-se em 1984 pela UCSAL mas a partir de 1985, retomou a música de forma profissionalizada integrando o “Cabo de Guerra” , banda de rock que misturava todas as vertentes conhecidas até então, ficando no grupo até 1992. Em paralelo à isto Álvaro Assmar criava a banda “Blues Anônimo”, um power trio composto pelos ex-integrantes do grupo “Mar Revolto” Octávio Américo e Raul C. Gomes e que foi o primeiro grupo baiano de blues a ser criado. O grupo atuou até 1994, quando Álvaro Assmar resolveu assinar seu próprio trabalho. No mesmo ano grava nos Estúdios Tapwin’ o álbum de estréia intitulado de “Standards”, que é lançado em março de 1995. Em 1998 durante um concerto no Teatro ACBEU (Salvador) com o bluesman gaúcho Solon Fishbone é registrado pela televisão o que viria a se tornar no ano seguinte o seu 2º álbum intitulado de “Live”. Ainda neste mesmo ano, Álvaro Assmar resolve criar o projeto Wednesday Blues, que trouxe a Salvador entre 1999 e 2003, os nomes de maior expressão da cena blues brasileira. Neste mesmo ano Álvaro Assmar assina contrato com a Top Cat Brasil, gravadora especializada em blues, subsidiária da Top Cat Records do Texas (EUA). Em agosto de 2001, Álvaro Assmar lança “Special Moment”, onde assina todas as composições pela primeira vez e uma canção (Welcome my friend) em parceria com o amigo André Christovam, trazendo ainda como convidado especial, o seu filho caçula Eric Assmar executando um belo solo de “slide guitar” com apenas 13 anos de idade. Nascida no Maranhão, Seu pai, o respeitado repentista Luís Costa, era compositor de bumba-meu-boi e classificou, por diversas vezes, o "Boi de Maioba", grupo existente em São Luiz. Cresceu envolvida por esse ambiente, já que sua mãe, Neuza Ribeiro, mesmo após a separação de seu pai, gostava de cantar as toadas do bumba-meu-boi. Sempre atraída pela música, na adolescência, admirava artistas como Gordurinha, Jackson do Pandeiro, Dalva de Oliveira, Emilinha Borba, Carmem Costa e Nelson Gonçalves. Começou a compor aos quinze anos de idade. Mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro no final dos anos 1950/60, com seus irmãos, a mãe a a avó, onde constituiu família e iniciou a carreira artística, já depois de casada. Apesar da oposição do marido a essa atividade, motivo pelo qual teve seu casamento acabado, ficando com quatro filhos, que criou sozinha, trabalhando com decorações, sem jamais abandonar sua paixão pela música. No início da década de 1970, passou a morar na cidade de Duque de Caxias, município fluminense. Em 2012, ganhou a causa junto ao INPI (Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial), pela utilização exclusiva do nome artístico Rita Ribeiro, então também utilizado por outra cantora. Provou que já o utilizava desde 1975, quando iniciou a carreira artística, e que, portanto, era a verdadeira detentora desse nome e autora do clássico "Minha Rainha", encerrando as confusões sobre a autoria do mesmo. Eric Patrick Clapton nasceu em Ripley, Inglaterra. Ganhou sua primeira guitarra aos 13 anos e se interessou pelo Blues americano de artistas como Robert Johnson e Muddy Waters. Apelidado de Slowhand, é considerado um dos melhores guitarristas do mundo. O reconhecimento de Clapton só começou quando entrou no “Yardbirds”, banda inglesa de grande influência que teve o mérito de reunir três dos maiores guitarristas de todos os tempos em sua formação: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck e Jimmy Page. Apesar do sucesso que o grupo fazia, Clapton não admitia abandonar o Blues e, em sua opinião, o Yardbirds estava seguindo uma direção muito pop. Sai do grupo em 1965, quando John Mayall convida-o a juntar-se à sua banda, os “Blues Breakers”. Gravam o álbum “Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton”, mas o relacionamento com Mayall não era dos melhores e Clapton deixa o grupo pouco tempo depois. Em 1966, forma o “Cream” com o baixista Jack Bruce e o baterista Ginger Baker. Com a gravação de 4 álbuns (“Fresh Cream”, “Disraeli Gears”, “Wheels Of Fire” e “Goodbye”) e muitos shows em terras norte americanas, o Cream atingiu enorme sucesso e Eric Clapton já era tido como um dos melhores guitarristas da história. A banda se separa no fim de 1968 devido ao distanciamento entre os membros da banda. Neste mesmo ano, Clapton a convite de seu amigo George Harisson, toca na faixa “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” do White Album dos Beatles. Forma o “Blind Faith” em 1969 com Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker e Rick Grech, que durou por pouco tempo, lançando apenas um album. A banda recebeu o nome de Blind Faith pois Clapton gostaria de recriar a The Band na Inglaterra, ao mesmo tempo via isto como uma “fé cega”. A banda de apoio do Blind Faith era liderada por um casal do sul dos EUA, eram conhecidos como Delaney & Bonnie. A musica desta banda seduz Clapton a deixar sua banda e se juntar ao que se formaria como Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. Um álbum ao vivo da turnê com Delaney & Bonnie é lançado em 1970 e no mesmo ano saiu o primeiro álbum solo do guitarrista.
