Curtis James Jackson III cresceu no bairro conhecido como South Jamaica, localizado no Queens, Nova York, Estados Unidos. Ele começou a escrever suas letras de rap bem cedo, mas só levou o trabalho a sério após o nascimento do seu filho. Assinando contrato com a Jam Master Jay e aprendendo a contar barras e estruturas das músicas, a música mais popular no mundo foi “In Da Club”. Jam Master Jay do Run-DMC encontrou um potencial no rapper e o contratou em sua gravadora, por um curto período. Sua primeira participação oficial foi na música do grupo Onyx, “React” em 1998. Jam Master Jay começou a ensinar 50cent como fazer uma gravação. Depois de deixar Jam Master Jay, a dupla de produtores Trackmasters ficou sabendo de 50 Cent e o assinou na Columbia Records em 1999. Eles levaram 50 cent para Upstate NY onde eles trancaram-no no estúdio por 2 semanas e meia.
