Lucky Dube nasceu no dia 3 de Agosto de 1964, em Ermelo, na África do Sul. Com 9 anos de idade, foi escolhido como assistente da biblioteca de sua escola. O desejo de aprender sobre o resto do mundo e sobre a história da África do Sul fez com que ele entrasse para o mundo da Literatura. Familiarizou-se com a filosofia Rastafari através de uma enciclopédia. Logo depois, conheceu o Reggae, que muito tinha a ver com o Rastafarianismo. Lucky embarcou na sua primeira viagem internacional para promover o álbum “Slave”. No ano de 1988, foi lançado o disco “Together As One”. Disco esse que trouxe, na faixa-título, uma letra baseada na situação da África do Sul. A letra pedia a união e a harmonia racial entre negros e brancos da África do Sul. Lucky cai na estrada novamente e se apresenta para multidões de mais de 65.000 expectadores. Em 1989, ele embarca em uma série de espetáculos na França. A partir daí, Lucky, merecidamente se estabelece como um artista de grande renome internacional. Este ano também deu a Lucky Dube a chance para gravar no filme “Voice In The Dark”. 1989 também foi o ano em que ele lançou o álbum “Prisoner”, que dentro de cinco dias, faturou disco de platina duplo. 1990 foi um ano em que ele fez shows na África.
