O Pizzicato Five foi uma das mais criativas bandas que já surgiu. O grupo conseguiu se destacar graças à originalidade e a técnica de Konichi Yasuharu e ao carisma de Maki Nomiya, últimos componentes da banda. Seu início deu-se com o encontro de Yasuharu com Keitaro Takanami, em uma universidade de Tóquio, no ano de 1979. Formaram a banda, juntamente com Ryo Kamamiya, a primeira vocalista. Ryo ficou na banda até 1984, quando foi substituída por Mamiko Sasaki. Com a saída de Sasaki, Konichi seguiu em frente com um novo vocalista, Takao Tajima, que durou somente um ano. Substituido por Maki Nomiya, alcançou o topo com o sucesso do CD “Made in USA”. Neste momento, Takanami resolve sair da banda, transformando o Pizzicato Five em uma dupla. A dupla confirmou seu talento e versatilidade em “Happy End of The World”, de 1999, que foi o primeiro CD do Pizzicato Five a sair oficialmente no Brasil. Eles seguiram na fusão lounge/pop/música eletrônica, e ficaram sendo reconhecidos como precursores do Shibuya-kei. O Shibuya-kei foi o resultado da invasão do “american way of life” sobre jovens japoneses que o adaptaram ao seu modo.
