Groundation é uma renomada banda de reggae, que une características de jazz e blues ao Reggae Roots, originária de Sonoma, Califórnia. O nome "Groundation" vem do esforço para que todas as pessoas atinjam um mesmo nível, podendo assim educar e aprender uns com aos outros, sem a presença de uma hierarquia. A banda foi fundada em 1998 por Harrison Stafford, Marcus Urani, e Ryan Newman. Em 1999, Stafford convocou Kris Dilbeck para fundar Young Tree Records e lançar o primeiro disco do Groundation, com o mesmo nome da gravadora. Em 2000 juntaram-se a eles David Chachere, que toca trompete, e Kelsey Howard, para o trombone. O saxofonista Jason Robinson participou da banda por um tempo, mas não continuou. O baterista Paul Spina foi convidado para se juntar ao grupo, ocupando o lugar de James Stafford. Entre 1999 e 2001, Harrison Stafford ensinou o primeiro curso de "História da Música Reggae", na Universidade Estadual de Sonoma. The name "Groundation" comes from the effort to ensure that all people reach the same level, thus being able to educate and learn from each other, without the presence of a hierarchy. The band was founded in 1998 by Harrison Stafford, Marcus Urani and Ryan Newman. In 1999, Stafford called Kris Dilbeck to found Young Tree Records and release Groundation's first record with the same name label. In 2000 they joined the David Chachere, who plays the trumpet, and Kelsey Howard to the trombone. Saxophonist Jason Robinson participated in the band for a while, but did not continue. Drummer Paul Spina was invited to join the group, taking over for James Stafford.
