Annie Lennox nasceu no dia 25 de dezembro de 1954, em Aberdeen, na Escócia. Filha única, Annie foi extremamente cuidada pelos pais e desde cedo mostrou pendão para as artes e ainda menina aprendeu a tocar piano, flauta, além de cantar em corais e estudar dança. A jovem Annie era apaixonada pela música negra, especialmente os artistas da Motown, como Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder e Supremes. Aos 17 anos, resolveu se mudar para Londres e foi estudar na Royal Academy Of Music. Durante três anos ela estudou música clássica e sobrevivia fazendo pequenos serviços, como o de garçonete. Um de seus empregos nessa época foi trabalhar em uma loja de discos, onde conheceu Steve Tomlin, com quem teria uma amizade longa. No final de 1985, na capital paulista, Nélson Brito (baixo) e Paulo Zinner (bateria) tocavam no Fickle-Pickle, onde posteriormente entrou – e saiu rapidamente – o vocalista Catalau. Este projeto não durou muito, e o trio somente se reuniu novamente quando encontraram o guitarrista Hélcio Aguirra, integrante do Harppia. Com o entrosamento entre seus músicos, Hélcio passa a se dedicar somente ao Golpe de Estado, cujas canções eram predominantemente hard rock, mas com muita influência do blues e algo de heavy metal, além de serem cantadas em português. Em menos de um ano já tocavam pelos teatros e bares de sua cidade, e toda a recepção do público rapidamente culminou num primeiro registro, feito por Luiz Calanca, do Baratos Afins. Simplesmente batizado de Golpe de Estado, o disco chegou ao mercado em 1986 com certa diferença em sua concepção, pois era um vinil com um dos lados em rotação 33 rpm e o outro em 45. Com a confusão na hora de tocar o vinil, muitos ouvintes das rádios paulistanas acabaram ouvindo “Olhos de guerra” na rotação errada. Sem conseguir assinar com uma grande gravadora, partem para o segundo disco, novamente pelo Baratos Afins. Forçando a Barra sai em 1988 e até contou com a participação da dupla Arnaldo Antunes e Branco Melo (Titãs) em Onde há fumaça, há fogo. Naturalmente bem mais coeso que o trabalho anterior, as canções estavam soando ainda mais rock n´roll e até mesmo mais dançante, e faixas como Moon dog, Parte do inferno, Noite de balada e Cobra criada foram muito bem aceitas pelos fãs. Nem Polícia Nem Bandido chega em 1989 pela gravadora Eldorado, e com este disco abriram para o Jethro Tull e Nazareth. Com os estabelecimentos onde tocavam sempre cheios, o Golpe de Estado já estava consolidado na cena paulistana. O próximo álbum, sugestivamente chamado Quarto Golpe, sai em 1991. Os arranjos trazem mais influência de blues e rock n´roll que anteriormente,[carece de fontes] e, com este álbum, abrem para o Deep Purple, para a felicidade total de Zinner, que alegou ter nesta banda sua maior influência. Em 1994 lançam Zumbi, o primeiro álbum a ser lançado no formato CD, onde optaram por um caminho diferente do que haviam seguido até então; a faixa-título, por exemplo, teve sua letra escrita por Rita Lee, além de cantarem sua primeira canção em inglês, "Slow Down", juntamente com covers de "My Generation", do The Who e "Hino de Duran", de Chico Buarque. No próximo álbum, o primeiro ao vivo (chamado Dez Anos ao Vivo), que saiu pela Paradoxx Music em 1996, o Golpe de Estado teve sua primeira mudança na formação, com a saída de Catalau. Durante o ano de 1999, com o retorno de Catalau à banda, fazem diversas apresentações em grandes festivais. Em março de 2010 entram na banda Dino Linardi e Roby Pontes, respectivamente nos lugares de Kiko Muller e Paulo Zinner. No mesmo ano a banda retoma o ritmo de shows e compõe o que viria a ser o novo disco inédito, "Direto do Fronte". Com dez anos ele já tovava bateria em algumas bandas de música gospel. Sua primeira grande apresentação foi em Nova York aos dezasseis anos, substituindo Sonny Greer numa performance com a Duke Ellington Orchestra. Em 1942, começou a sair para os clubes de jazz da rua 52, em Manhattan. Ele foi um dos primeiros bateristas (juntamente com Kenny Clarke) a tocar o estilo bebop e atuou em bandas lideradas por Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Bud Powell e Miles Davis. Essa experiência foi repetida e ampliada em 1980, quando gravou M’Boom, um álbum só de percussionistas (Ray Brooks, Joe Chambers, Omar Clay, Ray Mantilla, Warren Smith Freddie Waits, Kenyatta Abdur-Rahman, Fred King) com os quais efettuou diversos concertos nos anos seguintes.
