Days of the New é uma banda de Charlestown, Indiana, Estados Unidos, formada em 1995 pelos amigos de escola Travis Meeks (vocalista), Jesse West (baixista) e Matt Taul (baterista). Mais tarde, junta-se ao trio, Todd Whitener (guitarrista). A banda cai então nas mãos do produtor já veterano Scott Litt (R.E.M. e The Replacements), dono da Outpost Records. Banda de rock formada em 1984 em Porto Alegre por colegas da faculdade de arquitetura: Humberto Gessinger, voz e guitarra, Carlos Maltz, bateria, e Marcelo Pitz, baixo. No ano seguinte começaram a tocar em cidades pequenas do Rio Grande do Sul e acabaram incluídos em uma coletânea de rock gaúcho produzida pela gravadora BMG. Uma das faixas da coletânea, "Sopa de Letrinhas", se tornou um sucesso e incentivou a gravadora a lançar um LP dos Engenheiros. A banda ficou conhecida nacionalmente a partir do segundo disco, "A Revolta dos Dândis", de 1987, que emplacou, entre outras músicas, "Infinita Highway", executada exaustivamente pelas rádios. A essa altura, Marcelo Pitz já havia deixado a banda e Humberto tinha assumido o baixo, e Augusto Licks havia entrado para a banda como guitarrista. Outros sucessos da banda foram "Ouça o que Eu Digo, Não Ouça Ninguém", "Somos Quem Podemos Ser", "Nau à Deriva", "O Papa É Pop", "Era um Garoto..." e "Refrão de Bolero". Na década de 90 o grupo enveredou por outras searas musicais, gravando o semi-acústico "Filmes de Guerra, Canções de Amor" na Sala Cecília Meireles, no Rio de Janeiro, com arranjos de Wagner Tiso e participação da Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira. Em 1993 a saída do guitarrista Augusto Licks gerou transtornos para a banda que passaram por questões musicais e extra-musicais, como uma discussão em torno do nome Engenheiros do Hawaii.
