Filho do músico Cesar Faria, Paulinho da Viola cresceu num ambiente naturalmente musical. Na sua infância em Botafogo, bairro tradicional da zona sul do Rio de Janeiro onde nasceu em 12 de novembro de 1942, teve contado constante com a música através do pai, violonista integrante do conjunto Época de Ouro. Nos ensaios familiares do conjunto, Paulinho conheceu Jacob do Bandolim e Pixinguinha, entre muitos outros músicos que se reuniam para fazer choro e eventualmente cantar valsas e sambas de diferentes épocas. Ao longo dos anos 70, Paulinho gravou em média um disco por ano, ganhou diversos prêmios e se apresentou por diversas cidades no Brasil e no mundo. Já nos anos 80, gravou mais quatros discos e manteve-se como um dos principais nomes do samba no país. Nos anos 90, entrou numa nova fase, onde a imprensa e os críticos passaram a vê-lo como um músico mais sofisticado e maduro. Mesmo sem perder seu apelo popular, Paulinho gravou um de seus mais importantes trabalhos, Bebadosamba e montou o espetáculo homônimo. Janis Lyn Joplin foi uma cantora e compositora norte-americana de blues, influenciada pelo rock e pelo soul com uma voz marcante. Joplin lançou quatro álbuns, desde 1967 até o lançamento póstumo do álbum “Pearl”, em 1971. Janis nasceu na cidade de Port Arthur, Texas, nos Estados Unidos. Cresceu ouvindo músicos de blues, tais como Bessie Smith e Big Mama Thornton e cantando no coro local. Joplin concluiu o curso secundário na Jefferson High School em Port Arthur no ano de 1960, e foi para a Universidade do Texas, na cidade de Austin, onde começou a cantar blues e folk com amigos. Cultivando uma atitude rebelde, Joplin se vestia como os poetas da geração beat, mudou-se do Texas para San Francisco em 1963, morou em North Beach, e trabalhou como cantora folk. Seu último disco já desfruta de diversos elogios da crítica nacional e internacional (Guitar Player, Blues’n’Jazz, Real Blues magazine, Blues Bytes, mary4music.com, entre outras.) e várias de suas faixas já são executadas em rádios de diferentes países como Espanha, Itália, França, Argentina, Austrália, EUA e Brasil. Além disso, quatro delas entraram no Top 500 do concurso de composição da Bilboard(2008) e uma delas levou o título de “melhor composição de blues” através do concurso americano de composição IMA (International Music Awards). A faixa, que leva o nome do disco (Big City Blues), estava entre as cinco composições finalistas, sendo três delas americanas e uma canadense.
