Começou a tocar violão aos doze anos, incentivado por uma família cheia de músicos; alguns anos depois, começa a cursar Faculdade de Metalurgia em Ouro Preto. Apesar de não deixar de lado os estudos, dedica-se à carreira musical, influenciado principalmente pelos gêneros jazz, bossa nova e tropicalismo. A primeira gravação saiu no disco de bolso do jornal O Pasquim: Agnus Dei (1972). No ano seguinte, assinou com a gravadora RCA, quando lançou o primeiro disco, que levava apenas seu nome. Em 1967 conheceu Vinicius de Moraes com o qual compôs as seguintes canções: Rosa dos ventos, Samba do Pouso e O mergulhador, dentre outras. Em 1970 conheceu aquele que viria a ser o mais freqüente parceiro, com quem compôs mais de uma centena de canções: Aldir Blanc, O mestre sala dos mares, O bêbado e a equilibrista, Bala com bala, Kid cavaquinho, Caça à raposa, Falso brilhante, O rancho da goiabada, De frente pro crime, Fantasia, Bodas de prata, Latin Lover, O ronco da cuíca, Corsário, dentre muitas outras. A banda Devotos foi formada em 1988 por Cannibal (baixo e voz), o Neilton (guitarra) e o Celo Brown (batereia) sob o nome “Devotos do Ódio” que foi tirado do título de um livro de José Louzeiro (1987). O grupo teve e ainda tem sua base no bairro de baixa renda que também tem abundantes problemas sociais e onde muitas pessoas trabalham para melhorar suas condições de vida encontrada nos morros de Recife, chamado Alto José do Pinho. No ano 2000 o grupo mudou seu nome para “Devotos”. Quando a MTV começou a se captada no Recife, o sinal podia ser recebido claramente no Alto José de Pinho, os futuros membros dos Devotos já escutavam punk rock e bandas como The Smiths e The Cure junto com o punk rock de São Paulo. Conheciam os gêneros tradicionais que bandas como Chico Science e Nação Zumbi logo incorporariam aos seus sons, mas estavam interessados em tocar um estilo hardcore, rock. Os membros de Devotos abraçaram a ética do “faça você mesmo” do punk rock. O guitarrista Neilton explicou-me em 2001 como fabricou ele mesmo seu primeiro amplificador e guitarra o que incluiu o braço e do corpo da guitarra, e como tocou por um longo tempo sem que ninguém percebesse que não tinha sido comprada numa loja de música. Entre os obstáculos que a banda enfrentou nos seus primeiros anos se encontravam a polícia, a repressão e a não aprovação dos moradores do seu bairro pela eleição do seu estilo musical. Para voltar ao tema da identidade nacional brasileira que se encontra em canções como “Aquarela do Brasil” de Ari Barroso, há que escutar “Meu País” de Devotos como um exemplo do seu trabalho como banda. A canção "Whip It" de 1980 sobre o governo de Jimmy Carter teve seu tema confundido com masturbação e por esse motivo atingiu considerável sucesso nas paradas americanas. Nuno Mindelis é um músico luso-brasileiro nascido em Angola. É um dos mais conceituados guitarristas de blues do Brasil. Apaixonou-se pela música desde criança por volta dos cinco anos. Aos nove anos já tocava em instrumentos confeccionados por ele. Durante sua infância ouviu grandes nomes do Blues. Em 1975, morando no Canadá, formou uma banda de blues, passando a tocar em jam e clubes locais. Um ano depois decidiu unir-se à família, vindo também morar no Brasil. Em 1990 lança seu primeiro disco, "Blues & Derivados", que é amplamente elogiado pela crítica. Em 1994, veio o reconhecimento internacional pela revista "Guitar Player" americana. Em 1998 a consagração definitiva: Nuno é eleito o melhor guitarrista de blues segundo o concurso mundial de aniversário de 30 anos da revista. Nuno se apresentou no ViJazz & Blues Festival realizado em Viçosa - MG no dia 12 de junho de 2010 acompanhado de contra-baixo, teclado/órgão, bateria e um DJ, desembocando em um show denso e enérgico. Mindelis Nuno is a Portuguese-Brazilian musician born in Angola. It is one of the most respected blues guitarists of Brazil. Fell in love with music as a child by age five. At age nine he was playing on instruments made by him. During his childhood he heard the blues greats. In 1975, living in Canada, formed a blues band by playing in local clubs and jam. A year later decided to join the family, also came to live in Brazil. In 1990 released his first album, "Blues & Derivatives", which is widely praised by critics.
