In the same year they performed at the famous Woodstock Festival. R.E.M. foi uma banda de rock norte-americana formada em Athens, Geórgia, em 1980, pelo vocalista Michael Stipe, guitarrista Peter Buck, baixista Mike Mills e pelo baterista Bill Berry. Uma das primeiras bandas populares do rock alternativo, o R.E.M. ganhou atenção, em seus primórdios, devido aos arpejos de guitarra de Peter Buck e aos vocais de Stipe. A banda lançou seu primeiro single, "Radio Free Europe", em 1981, pela gravadora independente Hib-Tone. Após este single, veio o EP Chronic Town, em 1982, o primeiro lançamento da banda pela I.R.S. Em 1990, ainda crianças, cinco garotos da Zona Leste de São Paulo montaram um grupo de samba chamado Toca do Coelho. Já crescidos, em 1995, fundaram um outro grupo chamado Muleke Travesso. Em 1996, depois de uma nova mudança no nome na banda para Os travessos, firmaram-se no cenário musical com o prêmio Crowley Best pela execução da música Quando a Gente Ama, do cd Nossa dança, em todo o território nacional. Depois desse prêmio a banda conquistou 2 discos de Platina, 3 discos de Ouro, ganhou o prêmio VMB 2000/ MTV, participou do filme Xuxa PopStar, um DVD Ao Vivo gravado no Olimpo/RJ e duas turnês internacionais pelos Estados Unidos e África. Em 2006 a banda entrou em uma nova fase. Depois de fazer parte da banda Br’Oz, onde conquistou 1 disco de Platina, 2 discos de ouro e 1 DVD de Ouro, o cantor e compositor Filipe Duarte assumiu os vocais do grupo.
