Argent foi uma banda de rock inglesa fundada em 1969 por integrantes descendentes do The Zombies, Rod Argent nos teclados e vocal e seu primo Jim Rodford no baixo, que se juntaram a Russ Ballard na guitarra e Robert Henrit na bateria, ambos saídos do Rolettes. Lister começou a tocar guitarra aos 8 e tocou seu primeiro concerto aos 13 anos. Ele aprendeu a tocar guitarra tocando junto com seu pai: Freddie King, John Mayall e Eric Clapton. Na época ele tinha 18 anos, tendo já estado em várias bandas, ele formou a sua própria, que gravou dois álbuns Messin 'With The Kid (1996) and Watch! (1997). Três faixas escritas por Lister, no segundo álbum, atraiu a atenção de Ruf Records. Em 1998, eles assinaram um contrato de gravação e Lister gravouister, e o álbum contou com a participação especial de Walter Trout. Enquanto a música de Lister é baseada em blues, seu próprio material incorpora influências contemporâneas com ritmos mais rock e solo de guitarra, que relembram início de Eric Clapton. At the Drive-In é uma banda americana de post-hardcore formada em El Paso em 1993 por Cedric Bixler Zavala (vocal, percussão, sintetizador), Jim Ward (guitarra, vocal, teclado, percussão) e Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (guitarra, vocal). Seu primeiro álbum foi chamado Hell Paso, em referência a sua cidade natal. Logo após seu lançamento, em novembro de 1994, a banda saiu em turnê pelo Texas, tocando principalmente em shows vazios. No entanto, após a gravação de seu segundo EP, Alfaro Vive, Carajo!, eles foram contratados pela Flipside. Pela Flipside, o ATDI gravou seu primeiro disco, Acrobatic Tenement, que saiu por um custo extremamente baixo: apenas US$600. Logo após o lançamento, foram feitas mudanças na formação: entraram Tony Hajjar na bateria e Paul Hinojos no baixo. Omar, que até então tocava baixo, assumiu a segunda guitarra.
