Bernard Fanning é um músico australiano. É mais conhecido como vocalista da banda de rock alternativo australiana Powderfinger, da qual faz parte desde 1989. Nascido e criado em Toowong, Brisbane, Fanning aprendeu a tocar piano com a sua mãe quando era novo. Fanning começou a compor música aos 15 anos quando frequentava o St. Joseph’s College. Quando se formou, entrou na Universidade de Queensland onde estudou Jornalismo. Bernard Fanning is an Australian musician. It is best known as the lead singer of the Australian rock band Powderfinger, which is part since 1989. Apareceu inicialmente no grupo Farofa Carioca, formado em 1997 no Rio de Janeiro. Com uma linguagem híbrida, o grupo misturava influências de vários gêneros, entre eles o choro, samba, xote e ritmos estrangeiros como o hip hop e o reggae. No ano seguinte, ainda fazendo parte do grupo Farofa Carioca, lançou o disco "Moro no Brasil", no qual foram incluídas várias composições de autoria: "A carne" (c/ Marcelo Yuca e Ulisses Cappelletti), "Menino da Central" (c/ Wallace Jefferson e Maury Santana), além da faixa-título "Moro no Brasil", de sua autoria em parceria com Gabriel Moura, Wallace Jefferson e Jovi Joviniano. Por essa época trabalhou com o coreógrafo Ivaldo Bertazzo no espetáculo "Mãe Gentil - Folias Guanabaras" e ainda fez participações nos filmes "Moro no Brasil", de Mika Kaurismaki e no documentário "Sambatown", de Jodele Lacher (com Nelson Sargento, Rui Ipanema e Claudinho do Cavaco). No ano de 1999 afastou-se do grupo para seguir carreira solo. Neste mesmo ano, a gravadora rescindiu o contrato com a banda. Em 2000 o grupo Farofa Carioca participou do CD "Soul brasileiro", da gravadora Universal Music, disco no qual foi incluída a faixa "A lei da bala", de sua autoria em parceria com Gabriel Moura, Jovi Joviniano e Sandrinho. Por essa época participou de excursões do grupo Planet Hemp no Japão e nos Estados Unidos, gravou um CD de voz e violão para o mercado europeu (com os produtores da boate francesa Favela Chic), participou do disco "Favela Chic", coletânea que reuniu diversos artistas brasileiros que se apresentaram na boite francesa. Participou também da montagem de "Othelo" (Shakespeare), na qual atuou no papel principal, dirigido por Antônio Pedro, atuou em um episódio de "Os Normais", da Rede Globo e começou a gravar seu primeiro disco solo nos estúdios do vocalista do grupo Marcelo D2. No ano de 2001 participou como ator (interpretando o personagem Mané Galinha) no filme "Cidade de Deus" de Kátia Lund e Fernando Meirelles, baseado no romance homônimo de Paulo Lins, filme para o qual também compôs a música de fechamento. Neste mesmo ano, pela gravadora Regata Music, lançou o CD "Samba esporte fino". O disco contou com as participações de Carlos Dafé na faixa "De alegria raiou o dia" (Carlos Dafé e Dom Mita), William Magalhães (teclados), pastoras da Velha-Guarda da Mangueira, DJs Rodrigo Nuts e Zé Gonzales e Dudu Nobre. Foram incluídas neste CD "Samba que nem Rita a Dora" (Luiz Carlos da Vila e Jane), "Pequinês e pitbull" (Gabriel Moura, Lula Aranha e Jovi Joviniano) "Mangueira" (anteriormente gravada por Paula Lima), "O samba taí" (Seu Jorge e Pell), "Carolina" e "Chega no swingue". Ainda em 2001, participou ao lado de Elza Soares, DJ Dolores e a Orquestra de Cordas de Pernambuco de um musical. No ano de 2002, ao lado de Nina Becker, Rodrigo Amarante, Thalma de Freitas e Moreno Veloso, e os músicos Bidu Cordeiro (trombone), Max Glamour (flugel), Felipe Pinaud (flauta), Bartolo (guitarra), Nelson Jacobina (guitarra), Rubinho Jacobina (teclado), Berna (sampler) e Kassin (baixo), integrou a Orchestra Imperial, fazendo diversas apresentações no Ballroom, no Rio de Janeiro e participou do disco "Tranqüilo", do DJ Marcelinho da Lua, CD no qual interpretou em dueto com o rapper a faixa "Cotidiano", de Chico Buarque. Neste mesmo ano, a convite de João Bosco, participou do CD "Malabaristas do sinal vermelho", no qual interpertou a faixa "Cinema cidade" (João Bosco e Francisco Bosco). Ainda em 2002, Elza Soares regravou de sua autoria "A carne" (c/ Marcelo Yuca e Ulisses Cappelletti) no CD "Do cóccix até o pescoço". Neste mesmo ano, participou como convidado especial de Marina Machado e Markus Ribas em show no Teatro Rival BR, no "Projeto Conexão Telemig Celular de Música". Participou também, ao lado de outros artistas, participou do documentário sobre o samba "Moro no Brasil", do cineasta finlandês radicado no Brasil Mika Kaurismaki. Em 2003, voltou a apresentar-se no Ballroom integrando a Orchestra Imperial. Participou do "Projeto Rio Quintas de Verdade nas Quintas de janeiro", na Marina da Glória, dividindo o show com Luiz Melodia e, ao lado de Pedro Luís e A Parede, foi o anfitrião do "Projeto Skol Rio 2003", no Jockey Club Brasileiro, no qual o trio recebeu como convidados Lenine, Luiz Melodia, Jorge Vercilo e Cláudio Zoli. Neste mesmo ano, com Jorge Aragão, J. Smidt, Bangalafumenga e Discípulos de Jorge, participou do show "Salve Jorge", apresentado no Armazém do Rio, no Cais do Porto do Rio de Janeiro. Durante o ano de 2003 manteve um projeto de música no bar Buxixo, em Vila Isabel, no qual recebia toda segunda-feira diversos convidados e ainda participou do disco de Ana Carolina, no qual interpretou em dueto com a parceira a faixa "O beat da beata". Entre suas diversas intérpretes está Paula Lima em "Tive razão" e "Gafieira". Participou do filme "The life aquatic", de Wes Anderson (filmado em Roma), no qual fez o papel de um mergulhador (Pelé dos Santos) da equipe de Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) um oceanógrafo documentarista, um tipo "à la Jacques Cousteau". Neste mesmo ano, ao lado de Dona Ivone Lara, Wilson Moreira, Elton Medeiros, Cristina Buarque, Monarco, Velha-Guarda da Portela, Elza Soares, Teresa Cristina, Mart'nália, Cristina Buarque, Nilze Carvalho, Renato Braz e Walter Alfaiate, entre outros, participou do CD "Um ser de luz - saudação à Clara Nunes", lançado pela gravadora Deckdisc. Em 2004 lançou pelo selo francês Naïve o CD "Cru", que vendeu cerca de 30 mil cópias na França, disco de ouro naquele país. Nesse mesmo ano gravou o DVD “MTV Apresenta: Seu Jorge”, no Hotel Unique, em São Paulo, com a participação da cantora Paula Lima. No ano de 2005 apresentou-se com grande sucesso na França. Também foi uma das principais atrações do MIDEM (Mercado Internacional do Disco e Edição Musical). Fez cerca de 50 shows na Europa, entre eles, "Festival de Montreux", e na Inglaterra no "Royal Festival Hall" e "Festival La Línea", que promove anualmente a música latino-americana em Londres. Seu disco "Cru", lançado pelo selo Ether Music, vendeu 50 mil cópias na Europa e alcançou o oitavo lugar na lista dos dez melhores CDs de fevereiro da revista "Observer Monthly Music" e o jornal britânico "Daily Telegraph" o classificou com o título de "O homem mais cool do mundo no momento". Em 2007 lançou na Europa, Brasil e Estados Unidos o CD "América Brasil". Neste mesmo ano participou, ao lado de vários artistas da MPB, tais como Martinho da Vila, Alcione, Diogo Nogueira, Zeca Pagodinho, Nélson Sargento, Ivete Sangalo, Jair Rodrigues, Velha-Guarda da Portela, ente outros, da gravação do primeiro CD e DVD "Cidade do samba", do Selo Zecapagodiscos (Universal Music), no qual fez dueto com Luiz Melodia na faixa "Diz que fui por aí" (Zé Kétti). No ano de 2010 lançou, como integrante do grupo Almaz, o CD "Seu Jorge and Almaz", somente para os mercados dos EUA, Europa e Japão. A turnê do lançamento do disco "Seu Jorge e Almaz" estreou no Fillmore Theater, em Miami, passou por casas noturnas em Los Angeles e seguiu para outras cidades dos EUA e Canadá, como Chicago, San Diego, Seatle, Nova York, Boston, Portland, São Francisco, Washigton, Montreal, Toronto e Vancouver. Nesse mesmo ano a gravadora Som Livre laçou o CD “Perfil - Seu Jorge”, que contou com as participações especiais de Ana Carolina em “É isso aí” (The Blower’s Daughter), Alexandre Pires em “Eu sou o samba”, Marcelo D2 em “Pode acreditar” (Meu laiá laiá) e Marcelinho da Lua em “Cotidiano”. Integrou o elenco do filme "Tropa de elite 2", lançado em 2010, no qual interpretou o detento Beirada, que liderava uma rebelião no presídio Bangu 1. Em 2011 estreou o show "Seu Jorge e Almaz" em palcos brasileiros com duas apresentações que fizeram parte do projeto "Sonoridades", com curadoria do produtor Nelson Motta, realizado no espaço Oi Futuro, em Ipanema (RJ). Nesse mesmo ano lançou, pelo selo Universal Music, o CD “Músicas para Churrasco Vol. 1” que contou com 10 faixas inéditas de sua autoria, dentre as quais “A doida”, “Vizinha”, “A véia” e “Dia de comemorar”. O show de lançamento do disco foi apresentado no palco da Fundição Progresso, no Rio de Janeiro. Apresentou-se na Quinta da Boa Vista, no Rio de Janeiro, para a gravação do DVD “Músicas para Churrasco”, que contou com a participação de Caetano Veloso, Zeca Pagodinho, Racionais MCs, Alexandre Pires e Trio Preto, formado por Pretinho da Serrinha, Nene Brown e Miudinho.
