Nascida em Chicago, Illinois a 17 de Setembro de 1968, Anastacia Lyn Newkirk é uma das mais conceituadas cantoras da atualidade. Conquistou o seu espaço no meio musical e tem um talento devidamente reconhecido especialmente na Europa, onde é muito famosa e querida. Anastacia é conhecida pela sua voz poderosa, e por suas letras de músicas geniais e sentimentais. SPROCK é o estilo musical que a cantora criou, que é a junção soul, pop e rock. Estudou na “Professional Children’s School” em Manhattan. Quando terminou o curso de arqueologia lembra-se de que era das poucas que ainda não trabalhava. Gostava de poesia, de ouvir os discos da Barbara Streisand e do Elton John. O cantor Elton John é um dos seus maiores amigos e afirma que a sua mãe e irmã são das pessoas mais importantes da sua vida. Anastacia também gostava de ir a discotecas com a irmã, e foi precisamente numa dessas saídas à noite que nasceu o gosto pela música de dança do tipo freestyle . Tornou-se uma frequentadora assídua do programa de televisão “Club MTV” e dançou numa série de telediscos, caso de Eveybody Get Up e Twist and Shout das Salt n’ Pepa, até que por fim, numa das gravações, um produtor lhe perguntou se era cantora. Depois de ter colaborado com vários produtores que lhe impunham o que fazer, a cantora encontrou finalmente, em Los Angeles, O.G. Pierce, letrista, produtor e tecladista, também responsável por trabalhos de artistas como Montell Jordan e CeCe Peniston. Foi O.G. o primeiro a dar a Anastacia a liberdade artística que esta procurava, e a conseguir assim registar em cassete uma amostra do talento da própria cantora, com o tema One More Chance. Em 1998, Anastacia participou num concurso de procura de talentos da MTV denominado por MTV The Cut , tendo concorrido com o tema Not That Kind . Contudo, não foi vencedora mas sim, uma das dez finalistas selecionadas de entre um total de cento e sessenta concorrentes. Do júri, fizeram parte nomes como Pete Rock, David Foster e Faith Evans. A partir desse dia, muitas portas se abriram para o futuro da cantora, que recorda hoje ter inclusivamente recebido um telefonema de Michael Jackson. O esperado contrato com a editora não tardou em aparecer e, em 1999, Anastacia juntou-se à Daylight Records.
