Banda de rock progressivo e art rock que lançou e emplacou uma série de álbuns de sucesso nos anos 70. Foi fundada em Londres, Inglaterra, no ano de 1969. No princípio, gravavam mais álbuns conceituais, mas tornaram-se conhecidos mundialmente por suas posteriores canções ao estilo dos Beatles, como "Dreamer", "Give A Little Bit", "The Logical Song", "Breakfast in América", "Goodbye Stranger" e uma série de outros sucessos. Apesar do enorme sucesso, o grupo, por opção, nunca deixou-se levar pelo estrelato. Era afirmado durante o auge de sua popularidade que o Supertramp era a banda que mais vendia no mundo, mas os integrantes poderiam andar na rua sem serem reconhecidos. E realmente, a banda era um sucesso tão estrondoso quanto os Rolling Stones, a diferença era que os cinco integrantes optavam por uma espécie de anonimato, sem grandes explorações comerciais da imagem individual. Segundo especialistas, esse fator comprova a qualidade natural da banda e a ratifica entre as melhores e maiores bandas da história do rock. Com um público fiel e apaixonado, o grupo alcançou sucesso depois do lançamento de "Crime of the Century" em 1974. A banda continuou, abandonando seu estilo conceitual e progressivo em favor da música pop. O Supertramp perdeu força nos anos 80, pois já estava sem um dos seus fundadores e vocalista, Roger Hodgson (o da voz aguda e suave, que seguiu carreira solo). Apesar disto, lançou vários álbuns de grande repercussão como o primeiro álbum sem Roger, "Brother Where You Bound" (1985), que mostra um retorno às raizes progressivas - inclusive David Gilmour, do Pink Floyd, participa do álbum - como sempre, dando ênfase a grandes solos e composições memoráveis, como se estivesse partindo do zero após a saída do antigo parceiro. Em 1988, a banda lança o álbum Free as a Bird, e sai em turnê mundial de grande repercussão. Algumas das suas faixas tornaram-se hits instantâneos, como Cannonball, I´m beggin´ you e a faixa título, Free as a Bird, que, para surpresa do grupo nada dançante, tornaram-se famosas em pistas de dança ao redor do mundo. Nos anos 90 sua popularidade diminuiu, com o estilo rotineiro e sem nenhum lançamento até 1997. Com uma nova formação, novos membros, voltaram a fazer muito "barulho" nas cidades que visitaram, motivando uma procura intensa dos ingressos para seus shows, mesmo sem o vocalista Roger Hodgson. Após "It's about time world tour", nesse mesmo ano, o Supertramp ainda lançou outro álbum em 2002: Slow Motion, com canções muito boas e outra World Tour no ano seguinte: One more for the road tour!. Outro grande sucesso, apesar da pouca publicidade requisitada pelo grupo. No final de 2005 a Universal lançou a coletânea dupla Retrospectable – The Supertramp Anthology. Supertramp is a progressive rock band and art rock that launched and spawned a series of hit albums in the 70's was founded in London, England in the year 1969.
