Grupo pop formado em 1991 por Samuel Rosa (voz e guitarra), Henrique Portugal (teclados), Lelo Zanetti (baixo) e Haroldo Feretti (bateria) em Belo Horizonte. Iniciou a carreira apresentando-se em bares e festas realizadas em sítios nos arredores da cidade. Ao contrário do que se afirma, o nome "skank" se refere a um ritmo derivado do reggae jamaicano, e não ao "skunk", que em inglês significa gambá ou um tipo de maconha com altos teores de tetra-hidro-canabiol, agente ativo da planta. Em 1992, com as economias que juntou dos shows, o grupo gravou um CD independente, com prensagem de 3.000 cópias. Algumas delas foram enviadas para profissionais da mídia, como Carlos Eduardo Miranda e Otávio Rodrigues, ex-diretor da revista Bizz, que acabaram ajudando o grupo. No mesmo ano, a banda foi contratada pelo selo Sony, que relançou o disco e o distribuiu nacionalmente. O CD vendeu 150 mil cópias, uma bela marca para um CD de estreia, tendo boa divulgação as músicas "Indignação" e "Tanto" (versão de Chico Amaral para  "I want you", de Bob Dylan). Porém, foi em 1994 que o grupo iria fazer sucesso com a versão de "É proibido fumar", sucesso de Roberto Carlos, regravada no CD "Tributo ao rei", lançado pela Epic e produzido por Roberto Frejat, do Barão Vermelho. A versão tornou-se sucesso em todo o país e foi incorporada ao disco seguinte do grupo, "Calango", lançado em novembro do mesmo ano. O título do disco é uma referência a um ritmo típico mineiro, no qual duas pessoas dançam numa espécie de duelo. O CD vendeu mais de um milhão de cópias. O terceiro disco do grupo, "Samba poconé", consolidou o grupo como um dos mais importantes do pop-rock nacional, vendendo mais de um milhão e meio de cópias. O disco contou com a participação especial de Manu Chao, ex-vocalista do grupo francês Mano Negra. O maior sucesso foi "Garota nacional", de autoria do próprio grupo, que se tornou no vídeo clipe mais exibido na MTV em 1996. No ano seguinte, o grupo saiu em excursão pela América Latina e Europa, apresentando-se em países como Chile, Argentina, Espanha Itália Suíça, Portugal, Alemanha e França. De volta ao Brasil, em 1998, lançou o disco "Siderado", que já saiu da gravadora com 500 mil cópias vendidas. Ao contrário dos discos anteriores, esse não contou com a produção de Dudu Marote, mas de John Shaw, do conjunto inglês UB40 e de Paul Ralphes. Em 2000, gravou o CD "Maquinamara", cuja novidade foi a exclusão do naipe de metais e maior presença da guitarra de Samuel Rosa, dando uma característica mais rock and roll ao grupo, que sempre foi mais ligado às tendências do reggae. O disco foi produzido por Chico Neves e Tom Capone e alcançou o disco de platina com 250 mil cópias vendidas. No ano de 2008 o grupo lançou o CD “Estandarte”, que contou com 12 faixas inéditas, dentre as quais “Pára-raio” (Samuel Rosa e Nando Reis), “Ainda gosto dela” (Samuel Rosa e Nando Reis), “Chão” (Samuel Rosa e Chico Amaral), “Canção áspera” (Samuel Rosa e Chico Amaral), “Noites de um verão qualquer” (Samuel Rosa e César Maurício), “Escravo” (Samuel Rosa e Chico Amaral), “Notícias do submundo” (Samuel Rosa e Chico Amaral), “Sutilmente” (Samuel Rosa e Nando Reis), “Um gesto qualquer” (Samuel Rosa e Chico Amaral), “Assim sem fim” (Samuel Rosa e César Maurício), “Saturação” (Samuel Rosa e Chico Amaral), “Renascença” (Samuel Rosa e Nando Reis). Produzido por Dudu Marote, o disco contou com a participação de Negra Li em “Ainda gosto dela” e dos metais da banda Funk Como Le Gusta. Gravou a canção “Beleza Pura” (Caetano Veloso), para ser a música de abertura da telenovela com o mesmo nome, da Rede Globo. Em 2014 lançou o CD de inéditas “Velocia”, com 11 faixas da autoria de Samuel Rosa com antigos parceiros como Chico Amaral e Nando Reis além de novos parceiros como Emicida, Lucas Silveira, a cantora e compositora paulista Lia Paris, que participou da faixa “Aniversário”, parceria dos dois.
