The Stranglers é uma banda Inglesa, formada em 11 Setembro de 1974 em Guildford, Surrey. Originalmente eles chamavam-se “The Guildford Stranglers”. Começaram tocando rock num pub e logo decidiram explorar novos estilos musicais. No inicio, em 1976, foram conotados como um grupo de punk rock, muito por culpa do primeiro tour na Inglaterra. The Stranglers foram tambem associados ao estilo New Wave assim como gothic rock, mas o seu estilo proprio nunca atingiu completamente nenhum dos anteriores. Os fundadores da banda eram o baterista Jet Black (nome verdadeiro Brian Duffy), baixista e vocalista Jean Jacques Burnel, guitarrista/vocalista Hugh Cornwell e no orgão e na guitarra Hans Warmling. The Stranglers were also associated with the New Wave style as gothic rock, but his own style never quite reached any of the foregoing. The founders of the band were drummer Jet Black (real name Brian Duffy), bassist and vocalist Jean Jacques Burnel, guitarist / vocalist Hugh Cornwell and organ and guitar Hans Warmling.
