As Spice Girls são uma girlband pop britânica formada originalmente em 1995 em Londres, Reino Unido. O primeiro nome dado ao grupo foi Touch, na época em que ainda faziam a seleção realizada pela produtora The Stage pra escolher as membros que formariam o quinteto. Após outras formações anteriores, foram definitivamente escolhidas então Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Melanie B e Melanie C, então o grupo tornou-se conhecido em 1996 com o primeiro single Wannabe, sucesso instantâneo direto ao #1 absoluto em mais de 40 países. Em apenas dois álbuns gravados, Spice e Spiceworld, o grupo vendeu 55 milhões de discos, tornando-se um dos grupos mais famosos e queridos mundialmente, recordistas de vendas e criadoras de moda nos anos 90. Ao todo, venderam mais de 75 milhões de discos durante a o período de existencia do grupo. Após alguns shows desfalcados, Geri Halliwell decide deixar o grupo em 1998 em plena Spiceworld Tour, as fazendo concluir a turnê como quarteto. Em dezembro de 1998, elas lançam um single inédito, Goodbye, novamente mais um #1 em vários países do mundo. Em 1999, Melanie C também decide lançar um disco solo, obtendo boas colocações nos charts porém sem abandonar o grupo. Em 2000 elas se juntam novamente e lançam seu primeiro disco sem Halliwell, o terceiro da carreira do grupo, Forever, não obtendo o mesmo êxito dos albuns anteriores porém recebido pela crítica e pelos fãs com grande expectativa. Em 2001 o grupo dissolveu-se, seguindo cada integrante, sua própria carreira distinta. Separadas desde então e constantemente pressionadas sobre uma possivel reunião, as Spice Girls aceitam a proposta milionária para um retorno e se reunem em sua formação original em 28 de junho de 2007 em uma coletiva oficial em Londres, divulgam o lançamento de um Greatest Hits, com duas faixas inéditas e a mega e aguardada turnê de despedida. Em 5 de novembro de 2007 o single, Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) é lançada sendo tema do desfile de moda Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show e da campanha benefíciária Children in Need de 2007, cujas vendas do single seriam arrecadadas para ajudar crianças carentes. Em dezembro do mesmo ano iniciam iniciam a Return of The Spice Girls Tour no Canadá, batem mais um record por um show com ingressos esgotados em 38 segundos e finalizam, após dezenas de datas, o grupo dá seu adeus em janeiro de 2008, em Londres. No ano de 2009 novos rumores vindos dos tablóides ingleses indicavam que as Spice Girls estariam voltando. Confirmado por Emma Bunton e Melanie Brown que as cantoras estariam trabalhando em um novo projeto, muito se suspeitou que fosse a aceitação do convite da gravadora EMI para tornar a volta das Spice Girls oficial. Porém no ano de 2010, Emma Bunton confirmou que não voltaria às Spice Girls definitivamente. Além do fato, Geri Halliwell e Melanie Brown declararam estarem trabalhando em novos álbuns para suas carreiras solo cada uma. Em janeiro do mesmo ano veio a confirmação que o grupo estaria se reunindo apenas para lançar um musical na Broadway, intitulado Viva Forever, no qual contaria a história do grupo por meio de atrizes escolhidas pelas cantoras e dirigido pela criadora do musical de sucesso Mamma Mia!. Ainda no mesmo ano outro rumor surgiu: de que as Spice Girls iriam fazer uma única apresentação na abertura ou no encerramento dos Jogos Olimpícos de 2012, que serão sediados em Londres. O primeiro-ministro britânico, Gordon Brown já admitiu que o encerramento das Olimpíadas, será um grande marco na história e as músicas das bandas serão muito importantes nos Jogos. Contudo dentre outros artistas britânicos presentes nesse mega evento, as Spice Girls foram as mais aguardadas na cerimônia de encerramento, sendo as mais comentadas nas mídias sociais e sites de notícias de todo o mundo.
