O Exodus foi formado em 1979 na São Francisco (CA) nos EUA. No início a banda contava com Paul Baloff nos vocais, Tom Hunting na batera, Geoff Andrews no baixo e nas guitarras Gary Holt e Kirk Hammett. Em 82, Exodus grava sua primeira demo chamada “Whipping Queen and Death and Domination” e já marcando presença na cena metal da Califórnia, se torna influência de bandas como Testament e Forbidden. Apenas em 85, o Exodus grava seu primeiro álbum chamado “Bonded by Blood”. O álbum se torna um clássico do metal e o Exodus faz shows com bandas como Metallica, o Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Celtic Frost e Helloween. Meses depois, a banda decide-se por lançar um álbum ao vivo que se chamaria “A Lesson in Violence” e continha as músicas do primeiro álbum gravadas ao vivo e a música “Impaler” (composta por Hammett e que continha um riff mais tarde usado em “Trapped Under Ice” do Metallica). Porém, por um motivo ainda não esclarecido, o álbum foi cancelado e as cópias foram recolhidas das lojas e destruídas. Existe a informação, confirmada pela própria banda, de que restaram 500 cópias espalhadas pelo mundo, e de que uma delas está nas mãos de um fã brasileiro. Mas eles não reconhecem o álbum como parte da discografia oficial. Em 92, após o lançamento do álbum “Force of Habit”, a banda se separa e vai cada músico para o seu lado. Tom Hunting e Rick Hunolt se juntam para formar o Wardance. A banda contava ainda com Jack Gibson no baixo. Após alguns anos, no início de 97, o Exodus se reúne novamente e traz Jack Gibson no posto que era de McKillop e decidem-se por chamar Baloff para os vocais. A banda inicia a tour da América do Norte e Europa e gravam um álbum ao vivo no primeiro show, de 8 de março de 97 em sua cidade natal. Esse álbum se chamou “Another Lesson in Violence” porque continha as músicas do álbum “Bonded by Blood” (A lesson in Violence), mais três músicas (que futuramente fariam parte do “Pleasures of the Flesh”) e “Impaler”, todas compostas enquanto Baloff estava na banda. Também contou com a participação de Andy Sneap, produtor do Napalm Death, confirmando o som pesado do álbum. Na primeira metade da década de 80, o Exodus chegou a ser mais conhecido que o próprio METALLICA nos EUA e atingindo sucesso mundial. Porém, sua popularidade começou a cair devido a problemas de distribuição na gravadora Capitol, para a qual mudaram em 90. Apesar de ser hoje uma banda menos conhecida no Brasil, sua importância é incontestável e ele fica para a história como uma das bandas que melhor conseguiram aliar velocidade, som pesado e qualidade. Sem dúvida, o Exodus influenciou muitas das bandas hoje consagradas com seu thrash de qualidade. At the beginning the band had Paul Baloff on vocals, Tom Hunting on drums, Geoff Andrews on bass and Gary Holt on guitar and Kirk Hammett. At 82, Exodus record their first demo called "Whipping Queen and Death and Domination" and has a presence in the metal scene of California, becomes the influence of bands like Testament and Forbidden. Only in 85, Exodus recorded his first album called "Bonded by Blood". The album becomes a classic metal and the Exodus does shows with bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Celtic Frost and Helloween. Months later, the band decides to launch an album that live would be called "A Lesson in Violence" and contained the songs from the first album recorded live and the song "Impaler" (composed by Hammett and containing a riff later used in "Trapped under Ice" by Metallica). However, for reasons not yet clear, the album was canceled and the copies were collected from stores and destroyed. There is information confirmed by the band, the remaining 500 copies worldwide, and that one of them is in the hands of a Brazilian fan. But they do not recognize the album as part of the official discography. In 92, after the release of the album "Force of Habit", the band split up and will each musician to his side. In the first half of the 80s, the Exodus came to be better known than himself METALLICA in the US and reaching worldwide success. However, his popularity began to fall due to distribution problems in the Capitol label, for which changed in 90. Although it is today a lesser known band in Brazil, its importance is undeniable and he gets down in history as one of the bands best managed to combine speed, heavy sound and quality.
