Com o nome de um licor, o grupo foi formado em 1992, depois que o baixista Craig Montoya e o baterista Scott Cuthbert responderem a um anúncio colocado por Art Alexakis nos classificados do jornal de música “The Rocket”, de Seattle. O primeiro álbum, “World of Noise” conseguiu chamar a atenção do público local e de grandes selos. Em 1994 a banda assina com uma gravadora maior, a Capitol Records e Greg Eklund substitui Cuthbert, que sofria com a dependência química. No ano seguinte a banda edita “Sparkle And Fade”, que, através dos singles “Heroin Girl” e “Santa Monica” vendeu incríveis 1,5 milhão de cópias. O segundo disco, chamado “So Much For The Afterglow”, foi lançado em 1997 e vendeu ainda mais, ultrapassando os 2 milhões de cópias vendidas, e a consagração definitiva da banda veio com o prêmio de “Modern Artist of the Year” de 1998, concedido pela Billboard além da premiação de “El distorto de Melodica” pelo Grammy, como melhor música instrumental de rock daquele ano. Em 1999 a banda participa do Woodstock 99’. Depois do sucesso do disco “So Much For The Afterglow”, Art Alexakis decide gravar um album solo, com outros músicos, porém, não fica satisfeito com o resultado e resolve chamar de volta Eklund e Montoya, e por volta de julho de 2000 este projeto se transformaria no álbum intitulado “Songs From An American Movie Vol. 1: Learning How to Smile” com o single “Wonderful”.Alguns meses depois a banda lança o álbum “Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude” com músicas mais agressivas do que o Volume 1, mas toda essa estratégia de marketing não fez muito sucesso com o público. Em 2003 a banda lança seu sexto álbum, chamado “Slow Motion Daydream”, com o single “Volvo Driving Soccer Mom”, porém, vendendo um número de cópias abaixo do esperado. Após o fracasso de vendas do álbum, Craig Montoya e Greg Eklund resolvem deixar a banda e seguir com projetos próprios e a banda deixa, também, a gravadora Capitol Records após lançar um álbum incluindo os maiores sucessos entre os anos de 1994 e 2004, intitulado “Ten Years Gone”. Art Alexakis tentou novamente um projeto solo mas não obteve o sucesso esperado. Então decidiu voltar com a banda convidando novos membros: o baixista Sam Hudson, o guitarista Dave “Davey” French, e o baterista Eric Bretl (que logo foi substituido por Brett Snyder). Em 2006, já com uma gravadora menor, a “Eleven Sevem Music” a banda lança seu último álbum com músicas próprias, chamado “Welcome to the Drama Club”, com o single “Hater”. No ano de 2008 ocorre mais uma mudança na banda, o baterista Tommy Stewart substitui Brett Snyder e neste mesmo ano a banda lança um novo álbum, porém, apenas com covers, chamado “The Vegas Years”.  [Fonte: lastfm]

With the name of a liqueur, the group was formed in 1992 after bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Scott Cuthbert respond to an ad placed in the classifieds of Art Alexakis music newspaper "The Rocket", Seattle. The first album, "World of Noise" managed to draw the attention of the local public and major labels. In 1994 the band signed with major label Capitol Records and Greg Eklund replaces Cuthbert, who suffered with addiction. The following year the band edits "Sparkle And Fade", which, through the singles "Heroin Girl" and "Santa Monica" incredible sold 1.5 million copies. The second disc, called "So Much For The Afterglow", was released in 1997 and sold even more, exceeding 2 million copies sold, and the final consecration of the band came with the award for "Modern Artist of the Year" 1998 awarded by Billboard awards beyond "El distorto of Melodica" by Grammy as best instrumental rock song that year. In 1999 the band participates in Woodstock 99 '. After the success of the album "So Much For The Afterglow", Art Alexakis decided to record a solo album with other musicians, however, is not satisfied with the result and decides to bring back Montoya and Eklund, and by July 2000 this project would become the album titled "Songs From An American Movie Vol. 1: Learning How to Smile" with the single "Wonderful." A few months later the band released the album "Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude" songs with more aggressive than Volume 1, but all this marketing strategy did not have much success with the public. In 2003 the band released their sixth album, called "Slow Motion Daydream" with the single "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom", but selling a copy number lower than expected. After the failure of album sales, Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund decide to leave the band and move with their own projects and the band also leaves the Capitol Records after releasing a greatest hits album including between the years 1994 and 2004, entitled "Ten Years Gone". Art Alexakis tried again a solo project but did not get the expected success. So the band decided to return to inviting new members: bassist Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave "Davey" French, and drummer Eric Bretl (which was soon replaced by Brett Snyder). In 2006 with a smaller label, "Eleven Severn Music" the band released their last album with own songs, called "Welcome to the Drama Club," with the single "Hater". In 2008 another change occurs in the band, drummer Tommy Stewart replaces Brett Snyder and that same year the band released a new album, however, only covers called "The Vegas Years".
