Nascida numa família pobre de Kingston, Jamaica, que tinha quinze filhos, Diana King fugiu de casa ainda adolescente, quando os pais descobriram seus dotes de cantora de rhythm & blues, o que para eles era coisa do demônio. Conheceu o rei do dancehall, Shabba Ranks, e logo passou a acompanhá-lo em turnês, fazendo backing vocals. Em 1995, por influência de Shabba, conseguiu um contrato com a Epic, subsidiária da Sony Music, gravando o álbum Tougher Than Love. O disco fez sucesso em vários países, inclusive o Brasil, graças ao single Shy Guy (que três anos depois ganharia uma versão em português, gravada pela Fat Family). A música acabou sendo incluída na trilha do filme Bad Boy, estrelado por Will Smith, o que aumentou a popularidade da intérprete. Em 1997, Diana lançou seu segundo disco, Think Like A Girl, que teve como destaques a inédita L-L-Lies e releituras de Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, hit do Culture Club, e de I Say A Little Prayer, clássico do maestro e compositor Burt Bacharach, gravado originalmente por Dionne Warwick. A versão de Diana King, com levada de reggae, entrou na trilha da comédia O Casamento Do Meu Melhor Amigo (My Best Friend?s Wedding), com Julia Roberts, o que impulsionou a venda do disco. Met the king of the dancehall, Shabba Ranks, and soon began to accompany him on tour, doing backing vocals. In 1995, influenced by Shabba landed a deal with Epic, a subsidiary of Sony Music, recording the album Tougher Than Love. The album was a hit in several countries, including Brazil, thanks to the single Shy Guy (who three years later would win a Portuguese version, engraved by Fat Family). The song was eventually included on the soundtrack of the movie Bad Boy, starring Will Smith, which increased the popularity of the performer. In 1997, Diana released her second album, Think Like A Girl, which was to highlight the unprecedented LL-Lies and reinterpretations of Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, Culture Club hit, and I Say A Little Prayer, Classic conductor and composer Burt Bacharach, originally recorded by Dionne Warwick.
