Laura Pausini nasceu no dia 16 de maio de 1974 na pequena cidade de Solarolo, perto de Ravena, ao norte da Itália. De família musical - seu pai Fabrizio tocava num conjunto musical chamado Les Compains Music Show - Laura canta desde os 8 anos. Antes de alcançar o sucesso, cantava em piano-bares juntamente com seu pai. Laura fez sua primeira apresentação solo aos 12 anos, em Bolonha. Nesta época, foi gravado um disco intitulado: I sogni di Laura, que tem duas músicas escritas por Fabrizio Pausini (Lasciami Dormire e Le Stelle), além de alguns covers de artistas conhecidos como Eros Ramazzoti e até mesmo Elvis Presley. Em 25 de fevereiro de 1993 Laura subiu pela primeira vez o palco do Teatro Ariston para apresentar no festival de San Remo sua canção La solitudine. Com 19 anos lançou seu primeiro disco e foi um sucesso total: vendeu mais de um milhão de cópias só na Europa. Em fevereiro de 1994 a italiana voltou ao palco de San Remo mais emocionada do que nunca e com a nova canção Strani amori, com a qual ganhou em 1995, em Monte Carlo, o World Music Award e, em Miami, o Grammy pela música latina. Em 1997 realizou sua primeira turnê mundial, e no outono do ano seguinte lançou seu disco La mia risposta (Também em versão espanhola Mi respuesta). Depois de vender cerca de 16 milhões de cópias e nove anos de carreira, Laura decidiu produzir sua primeira coletânea, lançada em 2001, que inclui as músicas La solitudine e Strani amori.
